Two week tour of Spain in June 2026 that included Barcelon, Valencia, Malaga, and Madrid
I am returning to Colombia next week to help with disaster relief, following the August 10th, 7.7 magnitude earthquake. I hope to get a few pictures while I am there but my main concerns will be helping hand out food and clothing to the homeless in Pereira.
I had 2 fine art photos accepted into the 2026 Sooke Fine Art Show (SFAS) out of 3 that I submitted for adjudication. And then I had multiple sales of each 2x4 ft print!! So, very successful all the way around.
I will be giving a Zoom lecture on Scotland to the Nova Scotia Photo Guild on March10, 2025. This will be based on my month long trip to the land of my ancestors, in September 2023. My talk will include both still and video imagery taken with Nikon cameras, as well as DJI microdrones.
On Jan 23, 2025, I will be talking on South Georgia to members & guests of the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. Topics covered will include the marine wildlife, the importance of the whaling industry to WW I, the role South Georgia played in the Falklands War, as well as the heroism associated with Sir Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated trip aboard the Endurance - as part of the Imperial TransAnarctic Expedition.
Having recently returned again from Antarctica in February 2024, I gave lectures on Antarctica to the CAPA biannual CPC, held in Kelowna June 25-27, 2024.
Through the use of AV show stills & video, large fine art prints, and recently published fine art photo books, I outlined some of the amazing photo opportunities that can be found in the southern hemisphere of the planet below 60 deg S latitude. This included material from the Falklands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Archipelago.
Tips on the logistsics of planning a trip to this special part of the world were also provided.
The dramatic impact of the Bird Flu on tourism to the area, particularly South Georgia, was also emphasized.
FYI, I am starting up my Photo Workshops on Vancouver Island again next month.
These will be 5 day, 4 night tours;
Its 'a go' for May 28th to June 1st, 2022.
The July (26th-30th) and August (25th - 29th) dates are tentative, depending on interest. I need a minimum of 5 and max of 8 for each workshop.
The $500 workshop cost would cover all my photo ops leadership, logistics recommendations for gear & clothes to bring, travel suggestions from Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver, any lectures on foul weather days, general Q&A, as well as Parks Canada passes (mandatory when parking any vehicle in the national park).
I am there to help attendees with their photography, rather than focus on my own portfolio.
We can also do image reviews in the evening if there is enough interest after very long days.
Ideally, everyone stays at the same hotel but not necessarily. There are not many empty hotels in Tofino for May but still some in Ukee, as of April 9th.
I have 2 rooms reserved in Ukee, with 4 beds each. They could be used for 'guys versus gals'
but that is only for those who don't mind sharing, in order to save everyone a bit of money.
I can also help reserve some more if needed.
The cost of accomodation is each attendee's responsibility but I can certainly help with selecting the hotels, having stayed in the area for over 30 years every 1-2 years.
The 5 hr eco tour, on a 50 ft cabin cruiser, is a separate cost ($200), as are all attendees' meals. The boat is docked within a 5 min walk of the hotel I have reserved.
The Milky Way photo op (2-3am) will be just a 10 min drive from my selected hotel, followed by a 'late start' the same day, with the eco cruise at 10am (rather than a sunrise shoot).
If you have any non photographer family members with you, they could join us for the eco cruise but not for the photo op tours.
I am happy to announce a new fine art photography exhibit, in Sydney BC.
Entitled 'Bergs and Birds - My Journey to Antarctica', it will be on display at the New Photographers Gallery, 2449 Beacon Ave, Sydney BC newphotographersgallery.com
All giclee prints are 16 X 20 inches, framed, behind glass.
Greeting cards will also be for sale.
Exhibit runs from Aug 5th to Sept 12th inclusive.
Gallery hours are 11-5, M-W, plus F and Sat.
So, if you want to see some cool images from a very cool part of our planet, refresh yourself, and take a stroll through the gallery on a hot summer's day, over the next 5 weeks!
I am happy to announce my 1st, annual workshop in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
It will run from May 4th to 10th, and be based in Tofino, BC. Photo opportunities will include,but not limited to;
coastal mtn landscapes, seascapes, beaches, intertidal marine life, temperate rainforests, birds (200+ species, including Bald Eagles, Osprey, Stellar's Jay), whale watching (Orca, Humpback, Gray), black bear watching,
Man made abstracts, natural abstracts, people photography (including local indigenous), night photography.
The dates have been selected to correspond with the largest Spring tides (giving us more time and things to see in the intertidal zone), and the new moon ( to minimize bright mmon light for night photography).
We will also have a better chance of seeing the larger whales during their migration to Alaskan feeding grounds, compared to a tour in July or August.
