The Ochre Sea Star is a common Pacific Coast invertebrate. Found in the intertidal zone, it is related to sea urchins, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, and sand dollars. It is considered a keystone species to the overall health of the intertidal zone. They eat the California mussel, preventing it from overrunning their mutual habitat.
The Ochre Sea Star can be orange, purple, cherry red, or ochre - yellow to brown.
